HENNA WEDDING TRADITIONS

Exploring henna wedding traditions as folklore

The Wedding Tradition of Henna

Mehndi is the application of henna, typically to hands, feet, or body, as a form of temporary skin decoration. Mehndi is a ceremonial art form, generally applied for weddings in Sikh, Muslim, and Hindu traditions. This ritual has become an important stage in preparing the bride to become separated from her family and live with her husband. Mehndi is typically painted onto the skin as complex designs which come in various patterns.

"Henna, so dark and sharp, dulls away with time.

May all your troubles and worries follow the same route."

Marcus Aurelius
