What is henna?

Henna is a dye sourced from the plant Lawsonia inermis, also known as the henna tree. Henna as temporary body decoration is a widely practiced cultural folklore all across the world. Traditionally used to dye skin, hair, and leather, henna is also sought after for its medicinal qualities. Thought to have originated as far back as 2,000 BC, henna is now most commonly used as ceremonial body art in Pakistan, India, Africa, South Asia, the Middle East, and Somaliland.
